Clinical Psychology | FAQ
What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a clinical psychologist?
A clinical psychologist is an allied health professional who focuses on talk therapy and psychological assessments to treat mental health conditions. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can diagnose conditions and prescribe medication. Our clinical psychologists often work with psychiatrists to provide comprehensive care.
Do I need a doctor's referral to see a clinical psychologist?
You can often book an appointment directly without a referral. However, some insurance providers may require a referral from a general practitioner or specialist. We recommend checking with your insurance and contacting our centre to confirm.
What should I expect during my first session?
Your first session is a chance to get to know your psychologist in a safe and confidential space. You will discuss your background, your current challenges, and your goals for therapy. This helps your psychologist create a personalised treatment plan for you.
